The Turn of The Year

The Turn of The Year is a Christmas Carol, based on words written specifically for this piece by Jennifer Henderson.

The words depict the gradual changes throughout the winter season; beginning with cold and short days, and ending with the promise of brighter times ahead. The music mimics this progression, with verse 1 being in a minor key, verse 2 having a mixed / open harmony, and verse 3 being firmly in a major key. The chorus represents both the beauty and cheerful nature of Christmas time.

In a somewhat unusual instrumentation, both a harp and a piano accompany the choir, giving plenty of opportunity for interplay between the complementing timbres.
