BIOGRAPHY

Matt Welch

Born in Bristol, Matt took an interest in music from an early age. Initially this centred around playing the piano / electronic keyboards, and later evolved into a love for composition. He went on to study Creative Music Technology at the University of the West of England (UWE), where he graduated with a first class honours degree, as well as gaining the award for the best final year project for his 'Fantasia for Piano and Orchestra'.

Since then, Matt has had numerous performances of his compositions for orchestras, choirs, and other ensembles. This includes performances by the UWE Symphony Orchestra, the Kew Wind Orchestra, and the Bristol Millennium Orchestra. He has been successful in a number of competitions, including the Lord Mayor of Bristol's 'Motet for Easter', a military march for the 'Soldier On!' charity, and a piece for the electronically controlled bells of Gloucester Cathedral, among others.

Some of Matt's largest compositions include a symphony, a double concerto for piano and cello, and a set of 24 preludes for piano.

In addition to composition, Matt has experience of teaching piano / electronic keyboard, leading workshops on sound design for video games, music arrangement and orchestration, music for moving image, live concert recordings, and sequencing realistic audio mock-ups.
